Sandy Daze
Been cranking on shit lately. Trying to get the new book together, the new work retouched, everything paginated. Oh, and make some money all the while. Figures then, that the surf would pick up, and rear her beautiful head in time for all of this. But you make room for these things. You get up before sunrise. You come in before Jasmine gets mad and scolds you for playing too long. And you always, ALWAYS make sure to wash the sand down the drain. Nobody can know where you've been, or what you've done. And you still get your shit done. You just sleep less.
A fair trade, I suppose.

Our Policy
A couple of weeks back, when we were taking kitschy iPhone fotos of the 49er's endzone (see below), we were also hanging in the eves with some of the heaviest football hitters of all time. Normally we don't do candid shots of our subjects-- there just seems like too much disconnect, and not enough control on our part... Yet when Carmen Policy is hanging out with the boys (Joe Montana and Roger Craig at right), you tend to pull out your camera to snap a couple of frames.
Here's Carmen, just ripping.

Foozball
Was hanging w/ Eddie DeBartolo Jr the other night, snapping some snaps, while the 49ers took on the defending Super Bowl champs, the New Orleans Saints. Even though we lost, it was still arguably one of the better Monday Night Football games to be played in a long while. And we don't even like football. I know, how unAmerican of us.
These were our seats.

Grindstone Joe's
East of San Francisco lies a place where poplar trees line your road home. Large mouth bass seek refuge under a willow tree that feels centuries old, it's thewy branches stretching over the slough.
Hot air burns your skin, cold water takes you in.
This is Grindstone's.

Down Santa Barbara way lives our great friend Jesse Groves. Nestled amongst the avocado trees, Jesse's apartment is a quiet refuge where good coffee and good music can both be found. Afternoon light finds it's way through his shutters. Minutes grow slower. When you are here, there is no rush, and you find time to ponder what you'll say before you speak. Outside lives a green bus. Meet Jesse Groves.

Best of the Bay 2010
San Francisco Bay Guardian "Best of the Bay 2010" Behind The Scenes with Keeney and Law Photography from Michael Keeney on Vimeo.
Just finished up another fun job working with Mirissa Neff and the San Francisco Bay Guardian on this year's Best of the Bay issue. Normally it's an illustrative cover, but Mirissa wanted to switch things up this year, and we're glad she did. Fotos galore. It hits the newsstands tomorrow. See the behind the scenes here. Max
Came across an old pic of our friend Max Darling. Max owns a company called Elemental LED based out of Emeryville, CA. We were playing around with some daylight balanced LED light banks almost 2 years ago, planning on trying to create a new, affordable light source. While that project still hasn't happened yet, this picture did.

Manheim
Just did a job with Kilgannon (Atlanta), and Art Directing bad ass Mark Sorensen for Manheim.com. Shots will run in Auto Trader magazine, as well as anywhere else they so desire.
Enjoy.

Blue Bottle.
A midweek morning favorite. A cool place to eat. Big Windows. High Ceilings. Great Natural Light. They are our friends while we drink our cup of joe. The poached eggs ain't bad, either.
Chad. Haj.
Enjoy.

Moby.
Posted this guy's mug a little while back, but then took it down, as there was a possibility it was going to run in Paper or Dazed and Confused or something.
Well, it didn't, so he's back. New work to come up here, as well as some production stuff from a shoot that has not yet transpired. Going to be in LA all week working with the good people from Kilgannon.
But for now, just Moby.

Blog?
Whoa, you feel like it's only been two weeks since your last post, when in fact it's been two months. Getting back on the wagon again after a little hiatus. Things are good, tho. New things to come.

Matt Lynn
Normally we'd never post anything of non photography substance, but today is an exception. As if losing Nick Dekker on the 14th of December wasn't pain enough, another friend, Matthew Collins Lynn, passed away after a 4 1/2 year battle with brain cancer one day prior on the 13th. The length to which Matt fought is a clear testament to what kind of a person he was, and no amount of words could describe what this young man brought to the world. Did I mention Matt wasn't even 30 yet?
Today, in the quiet shadow of Mt. Diablo, a standing room only crowd said goodbye to one of the greatest human beings to have ever graced this earth. Matt, you will be sorely missed by so many.
